I’m an 80’s baby. Toys were way simpler when I was a nipper. He-Man, Transformers, Centurions, Thundercats, Sega Master System, NES.. that was my time. We even had a Vetrex! What do you know about that?!

Scalextric. State of the art racing simulator of the 80’s and 90’s (next to Road Rash and OutRun). Now that was something that I never actually owned as a child but always wanted. My dad is Asian which meant I got the knock off version from Makro. I don’t hold it against him.. branding didn’t mean sh*t to him.. like I said, he’s Asian.

A few months back,  the Families Online website approached me to be a contributor to their blog. I was a bit shocked that anyone would see me fit to write about parenting but I was honored nonetheless! I wasn’t familiar with them at the time but when I realised that they were connected to Emma’s Diary who I was familiar with from attending the Baby Show at the London Olympia, I was all in.

Soho isn’t really the first place that comes to mind when planning taking your children trick or treating. With such a “lively” atmosphere, you wouldn’t be blamed for raising an eyebrow if you saw families doing the rounds with hopes of filling their bags with sugary swag.

What if I told you that in and around the heart of Soho lies a small yet strong community of families that will come together and march the area like a mob of mini-monster-munchkins led by supermum Sandra terrorising shop keepers who dare not provide treats with the trickiest of tricks?

Online sneaker communities, like many other commuties connect you to like-minded individuals who share your interests and passions. I’ve met a lot of awesome people through these groups (and many an *rsehole too for that matter) including Rain and Jack. Many of these guys are in a similar position to myself: love trainers, love our kids, which is why I decided to interview these guys.. there’s a lot more to us fathers and a lot more to us sneaker enthusiasts. I just wanted to celebrate that.

Carrying on from last week’s debut of The Sneaker Dad interviews with Rain “Da Mask” Nelson, this week we speak to Jack Brint, a regular contributor to the Sneakerplay Facebook group which if you haven’t followed already, you need to (if you’re into sneakers. Earlier this week, the Missus and I took our youngest son Benjamin to My Old Dutch in Holborn for lunch. I ate too much (honestly, check the size of the pancake, it was called the “My Old Dutch” for anyone that cares) so we decided to go for a “short walk”.

Letting Children Be Children

A few weeks ago, the Missus and I were walking past the British Museum on our way home from visiting my parents in Fitzrovia. End of term was fast approaching for the kids and we were having a conversation about what to do with them over the summer holidays. Now being a few weeks back, I can barely remember the full details of the conversation (to be honest, I can barely remember if I had my daily movements this morning let alone a conversation we had four weeks ago) but it was about how other parents at the school make their minions do extra lessons, extra tuition and the mysterious art of Kumon (what the fuck is Kumon?!) outside of the hours that they already put in at school. I don’t know about your minis but after a full day at school, our younglings are cream crackered!

Having “The Talk” with your kids

My eldest son is 12. 13 this year. Next month actually. He’s a handsome chap (despite a terrible hair do) so I regularly take the piss and tease him by asking him about the girlfriend that he doesn’t have (supposedly), much to the dismay of my sister and the missus who think I’m going to give him a complex. It’s just a bit of banter. But he’s a cheeky bugger so I let him have it.

After putting it on him for a bit, he’ll usually try to shift the heat onto his sister by bringing up a boy in her class. But Daddy knows all about him..

I Went Back To The 80’s For A New Blog Logo!

Despite having this blog up for only a little while, I’ve stepped away and came back to it a few times already. ‘Time After Time’, I’d come back to writing and would feel ‘Under Pressure’, especially after reading other people’s blogs to create a decent logo to slap across the top of my one’s forehead.

A lifetime ago at the tender age of three, my parents used to own a greasy spoon cafe where I would stand on tables and sing “Bad” by Michael Jackson. Kick, point and d*ck grab included. I have no recollection of this although my Dad will religiously tell the story to anyone that will listen. “Every Breath You Take’ doesn’t have to be to bust my balls, Dad 🙈😂 Maybe it’s ‘The Power Of Love’ that makes him want to talk about me regardless of if he’s embarrassing the crap out of me.

Rewind to two week ago when I was arsing about on Instagram ‘All Night Long’ when an image of the “Bad” album cover popped up and instantly something clicked. Michael Jackson Bad.. The Uncool Dad.. hmmm.
